Lord of A Man Under Starvation

Original: Sufi Khaza Monir

[Translated by Md. Arif Rabbany

Lecturer, Ebenezer International College]

 I am passing tonight-sleepless and foodless-

                                  The only reason is you;

How many times I tried to surrender to sleep only to be awakened

by the remembrance of you

How many times I tried to fulfill my stomach with food;

But for the sake of meditating you, I lost my desire to eat.

Oh Lord, so long I knew that you are merciful, graceful, forgiving and savior;

 But tonight I am receiving unexpectedly your cruel and wrathful behavior.

Oh Lord- you take away sleep and food from the eyes and gullet of your lover;

Will you tell me the truth what do you desire?

If you find pleasure in giving me pain;

I must spend every night-starving & sleepless- I assign.

For worshiping and remembering I demanded nothing from you God;

Then tell me at least for once that you are my cherisher and my Lord.

Cough

Original: Sufi Khaza Monir

[Translated by Sazid Ahmad ]

One lazy afternoon
Coughed a phlegm down the window
On a Khushka leaf below
Phlegm from a Betel chewed mouth
Looks disgusting no doubt
So often by the nearby
My elder brother goes by
With a neat and clean appetite
He would shudder at the very sight

Thus the leaf I did tear
Throwing it far from here
The tiny tree calls out to me
Cutting my limb, you've hurt me needlessly
Oh, being so sly
Quiet, said I
By mankind, do Lord's creations abide
And now to me says the tree
If I'm wrong, do forgive me
Why a leaf, if need be
Even my roots take rightfully
But what a touch of water can easily do
In negligence and ignorance costs a limb or two
Verily such injustice –
the world often suffers through

Words of the sapling awakening me
I sunk in a shameful ignominy

Guilty conscience begs pardon at the lord's door
May I serve his creations ever more
